bebe rexha debuted a new song called "im a mess" from her forthcoming expectations on friday (june 15) and it seems the track owes some inspiration to a classic 90s pop-rock single--. songwriter shelly peiken, who co-wrote the song "bitch" with performer meredith brooks, shared via instagram on friday -- which coincidentally was her birthday -- that "im a mess" writers justin trantner, jussifer and devon corey decided to give her co-writing credit on the track, feeling that it interpolated the hook of "bitch." the similarities are apparent but not totally overwhelming. whereas "bitch" goes, "im a bitch, im a lover, im a child, im a mother, im a sinner, im a saint," in a similar phrasing "im a mess" goes, "im a mess, im a loser, im a hater, im a user, im a mess for your love it aint you."
